RECRUITMENT PROGRESS
Congratulations to all our Packs who have held successful recruitment events already this fall. Thanks to your efforts, we’ve recruited 533 new Cub Scouts through the end of September. We are well on our way to achieving our goal of registering at least 950 new Cub Scouts in Three Harbors Council this fall!
SUBMITTING NEW YOUTH APPLICATIONS
If you’ve collected paper applications or have online applications pending acceptance, it’s IMPORTANT that all applications and fees are submitted to the Council Service Center or Kenosha Scout Shop or approved no more than 24 hours after your recruitment event. If you have unsubmitted or unapproved applications for new members, and new members are participating in your programs, they are NOT:
- Covered by BSA insurance,
- Able to be synced properly in Scoutbook,
- Able to have Scout Life magazine sent to them and,
- Cannot have advancement recorded.
Additionally, new adult leaders should complete their adult application and Youth Protection Training before participating in Pack activities as a leader.
Youth Safety should be at the forefront of everything we do as adult leaders in the BSA. Having properly registered youth members and properly registered and trained adult members is the first step in ensuring we are taking all the proper steps to keep ALL BSA members safe!
BEASCOUT.ORG
Since August 1, 67% of our new Cub Scouts have joined a Pack using online registration after they visit BeAScout.org! This IS the way that many families are signing-up to join Cub Scouts..
Hundreds of families continue to look for Cub Scout Packs by going to BeAScout.org first. If you haven’t updated your unit pin information for a while, update it today. Make sure you or your unit leadership is checking the Invitation Manager and Application Manager sections of my.scouting.org to follow-up on any membership leads you have and to approve applications daily!
Learn more about how to update your BeAScout.org pin and manage online leads and applications by clicking here.

- New Cub Scout Fun Day – October 15 at Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta. New Cub Scouts can go to a Bobcat Clinic, shoot archery and BB guns and more.

FOLLOW-UP RECRUITING EVENTS
Most units have conducted their initial recruitment event. In some units, a follow-up recruitment event needs to be planned. Some families may not have been able to attend your recruitment event, or your Pack may not have had the turnout you were expecting. This follow-up recruitment event should be tied-in to something your Pack already has scheduled. Advertise your next Pack Meeting or an upcoming Pack activity
COUNCIL FACEBOOK GEOFENCING
Three Harbors Council scheduled dozens of Cub Scout Pack recruitment events in September on the council’s Facebook page, including geofencing for all units requesting it. Geofencing is a way to market your event throughout a virtual geographic boundary to your defined audience, effectively sending an ad to your target audience through their Facebook feed when they’ve entered that boundary. Schedule your Fall Recruitment follow-up event as soon as possible and complete this form to get your event geofenced along with other unit events that have already been scheduled and geofenced. Geofencing is most effective when it runs for 10-14 days leading up to the event.
YOUR UNIT’S UNIQUE QR CODE SHARED EASILY
We just made sharing your unit’s unique QR code to access online registration for new families even easier! Download this flyer, update unit information at the top and follow the instructions in the middle to put your unit’s unique QR code on this document to create an easy invitation for families to register their child online to your Pack!
NEW FAMILY INFORMATION
Make sure you have your Pack’s calendar, budget, and leadership roster ready for your new families that sign-up to join your pack this fall. Families may also look for something they can fill out and stick on their refrigerator door to refer to quickly. Use this one-pager or the Pack info sheet in the Parent Orientation Guide available from Three Harbors Council.
2022-23 COUNCIL CUB SCOUT PROGRAM FLYER
As you look forward to the coming Scouting year, Three Harbors Council has put together some information on all the programs that we offer for Cub Scouts. Look at what’s happening this year in Scouting, and add these to your program plans!
CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING IN PERSON
On October 22, the Council Training Committee will be conducting an in-person Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific Training for new and current leaders. This training covers the same information that is included in the online training, we are simply presenting it in-person for those that may enjoy training better through this method. Leaders who attend this training will complete all courses needed for all three Cub Scout Position-Specific groupings. For more information and to register, click here.
BEST PRACTICES FOR FORMING NEW DENS
You’ve just recruited a bunch of new Cub Scouts! What’s next? You’re going to need to recruit some new leaders to help run the program and you’ll probably need to form some new dens. Check out these best practices for forming new dens and recruiting new den leaders.
NEW CUB SCOUTS FIRST DEN AND PACK MEETINGS
All our new Cub Scouts need to attend their first den meeting and pack meeting. Getting your new Cub Scouts and their families involved in Scouting right away is a key step in making sure they know they are part of your pack. If you’ve got a new family that registered but doesn’t attend their first meetings, make sure you Pack Recruitment Chair or New Member Coordinator calls that family as soon as possible to have a conversation about getting involved in Scouting!
PAYING FOR SCOUTING
During our recruitment events, we emphasize that families have opportunities to participate in product sales like council-sponsored popcorn and wreath sales or other pack fundraisers to help offset the costs of Scouting. Each new family should be participating in these sales now. Make sure you’re checking in with new families to see if they have any questions and find out how sales are going!
10 THINGS EVERY NEW CUB SCOUT LEADER NEEDS TO KNOW
