Family Scouting

We are excited about the recent decision by the Boy Scouts of America to expand our membership options and serve the entire family through Cub Scouting beginning in August of 2018! Packs gain the option to add all-girl Dens – or for charter institutions to create new Packs comprised of entirely all-girl Dens.

As we make this transition, our top priority as a Council is welcoming new Scouts and families into the Scouting program, while continuing to offer the same great program that our Scouts enjoy today.

Wel look forward to supporting and assisting our charter partners with the structure that best fits their needs.  If you have any questions about the policy or process, or when your charter organization is ready to decide on extending membership to your Cub Scout program to girls, please reach out to your district executive.

Recommended timeline for chartered partners:

  • December through February: Begin discussions (now) with parents, volunteer leaders, your Pack Key 3, and your charter organization's representative and institutional leadership. This should begin to build a perspective on whether the addition of girls to your Pack is best for both your Scouting program and chartering organization.  As your charter organization decides, please let us know that decision by contacting the council.
  • February:  We expect to learn more about the process of welcoming girls into Cub Scouting from the BSA National Office in February. Keep an eye out for national and local communications during that time.
  • February up to March 16:  Based on the latest discussions within your Pack and with your charter organization – and based on any new information shared in February – please confirm or update the decision.  Your charter organization (the ultimate decision-maker) has until March 16 to reach a decision.
  • March: A representative of the Council (e.g., a member of the executive staff, district committee member, district commissioner) will reach out to all Cub Scout charter partners during or before March.  Please consider this as an opportunity to ask questions, discuss your go-forward plan, and generally gain assistance in any way we can help.
